The Nuhad Es-Said Pavilion for Culture presents Impressions of Paradise, an exhibition curated by Nour Osseiran, with a catalogue edited by historian Marie Tomb.
The exhibition explores the representation of Modern Lebanon through a rare selection of travel and film posters from the Philippe Jabre Art Collection, spanning the 1920s to the 1970s. It invites viewers to reflect on the ways popular visual culture shapes national identity.
Impressions of Paradise reveals how stylized images filled with Cedar forests, Roman ruins, golden beaches, and depictions of cosmopolitan air travel helped craft a seductive image of Lebanon destined to both national and international audiences.
Alongside these historical materials, four contemporary Lebanese artists present works that shed a critical eye on idealized constructions of mid-century Lebanon through the lenses of Memory, rupture, and transformation.
