Join us this Sunday, July 20, for a workshop and a musical concert that dive into the beauty of Indian classical music, guided by Lebanese actor-musician Daniel Balabane (shehnai) and tabla player Chetan Shukla, visiting from Varanasi.
About the artists:
Daniel Balabane is an actor and musician who has long multiplied artistic collaborations across Europe, North Africa, New York, and India. Since 2020, he has fully dedicated himself to Indian classical music.
Chetan Shukla is a promising Indian tabla player from Varanasi. He trained under Guru Pandit Brajesh Tiwari ji and later studied with Pandit Praveen Uddhav ji, he is known for his refined technique and expressive stage presence.
About the workshop:
Introduction to Indian Classical music.
Spoken Percussion
Or Konacol in south Indian, we learn the syllables used for each sound and we practice a traditional rhythm.
Dhrupad singing
In ancient Dhrupad style we move slowly between the notes to unreveal the scale (Raag).
We will learn the Indian notes (SARGAM)
And practice a specific Raag, then we learn a few compositions in that Raag.
