As part of the UNDP and UN Women’s “Women in Leadership” project, funded by the Government of Canada, the Arab Institute for Women cordially invites you to attend the performance of Wadad: An Ant That Digs in Stone, taking place on June 10, 11, 12, and 13, 2025, at 8:30 PM in Irwin Hall Auditorium, Beirut Campus.
Wadad Halawani is a prominent advocate in Lebanon for the families of the kidnapped and missing, a cause she took up after the abduction of her husband during the Lebanese Civil War in 1982. Her unwavering pursuit of justice led to the creation of the National Commission for the Missing and Forcibly Disappeared and embodies a broader fight against systemic gender inequality and human rights violations.
The play offers a powerful portrayal of Halawani’s transformation from grieving wife to fearless activist. It traces her relentless campaign for truth and accountability, her defiance of bureaucratic and societal barriers, and her founding role in the Committee of the Families of the Kidnapped and Missing. Through its compelling narrative, the production honors her resilience and highlights the enduring struggle for justice, gender equality, and human rights.
