DAF is pleased to announce its upcoming exhibition, Echoes Across the Nile: A Hundred Years of Egyptian Art from the DAF Collection, running from March 4, 2026, until July 3, 2026.
Bringing together 103 artworks by 53 artists, the exhibition traces the evolution of Egyptian art from the early twentieth century to the present. It showcases works from key modernist movements such as the Art Advocacy Group (Jama’at al-Da’ayah al-Fanniyya), La Chimère (Jama’at al-Khayal), Art et Liberté (Jama’at al-Fann wa al-Hurriya), and the Contemporary Art Group (Jama’at al-Fann al-Mu’aser). The pioneering members of these groups developed distinct visual languages shaped by anti-colonial thought, nationalism, surrealism, and social realism.
The exhibition also explores abstract art by Egyptian artists, highlighting works where they adopted a universal artistic language and experimented with new media while drawing inspiration from ancient pharaonic art and mythology. Together, the works on view reveal how successive generations of Egyptian artists have engaged with and reinterpreted their nation’s cultural legacy, reflecting the dynamic dialogue between modern and contemporary Egyptian art.
We warmly invite you to discover this journey through Egypt’s rich artistic heritage at DAF.
